How do I get rid of those weird symbol boxes that pop-up as I try to write a paragraph?

* If the paragraph symbol or other weird symbols appear in Word while you type; click on the button with the paragraph symbol (located next to the zoom tool on the tool bar at the top of the screen).
* If that does not work, go to the Tools menu, and click on Options. On the View tab, about half way down, you will see Nonprinting characters. Make sure none are selected.
