Needing help getting on the Wireless?
All ~
It has just been a little over a week since we have changed the wireless configuration of the network on the Warner Pacific College campuses. Since then, there have been numerous requests and inquiries as to how to get connected to the wireless.
Everyone should have the updated password which is a lot easier to remember and less painful to put in. Beyond that, you're going to be looking for either WPC2, WPC-ADP or WPC-___ listed as your wireless access point. Past that, you'll enter your password and choose WPA2 as the encryption type and then it should be connected.
If you have an EXISTING connection on your computer, make sure that you edit the existing connection.
Windows XP/ Vista / Windows 7 Configuration help:
----------------------------------------------------------
On a PC running Microsoft Windows Vista or Windows 7, click on your wireless connection down in the system tray next to the clock; Find the WPC-ADP connection and right click on it and go to properties.
You then should have a Network Properties window with two tabs. One named "Connection" and the other "Security".
Click on the "Security" tab.
From there, change the security type to:
"WPA-Personal" or "WPA2-Personal".
Encryption Type should be: "AES"
Network Security key: is the password that we emailed out to everyone.
Click OK.
The adapter may reset itself but then should reconnect to the Wireless internet.
Everyone does have various shapes and sizes of hardware including the standard issue Dell systems all the way to Apple Macintosh computers. If you encounter a problem here beyond the above configuration here are a couple of tips:
1) Update your Wireless card drivers. Go out to the Vendors website (Dell, HP, etc.) and find the latest drivers for your wireless card. Update them, reboot your computer and then try and reconnect to the wireless again.
2) Delete the wireless profile you have for WPC. This is key. Be it Mac or PC, go in and delete the previous wireless profile you had on your system and create a brand new connection.
In PC, this is handled a couple of different ways:
Windows XP:
Network Connections -> Manage Wireless Networks
Windows Vista/Windows 7:
Network and Sharing Center
Apple Macintosh:
This is handled in the Apple -> System Pref. -> Network.
*****NOTE***** Some PC manufactures have SPECIAL connection software be it Intel PROset or something else of which controls the wired and wireless connections. Be sure to check and use the appropriate software to manage your wireless connections.
Beyond that, there might be a hardware problem in which you will have to consult with the hardware vendor to determine or some other operating system issue/software that is not allowing the connection. Make sure you have your system up to date with the latest in service packs and drivers for all of your computer equipment.
